Risk factors:

- General anaesthetic
- Excessively high pressure to individual body area (>32mmHg)
- Cool environment (vasoconstriction)
- Ischaemia during surgery
Strategies to avoid
[edit | edit source]- Relief of pressure on pressure points - gel pads
- Keep skin dry
- Avoid leaning on, or placing items on, the patient
