Nailbed and related structures
[edit | edit source]- Cuticle/eponychium - a thin extension of stratum corneum
- Nailbed skin is very vascular and bound to the nail superficially and the periosteum of the phalanx deeply
Arteries:
[edit | edit source]- ATA and PTA form a major anastomotic loop between dorsal and plantar aspects
- Dominance of inflow varies
- ATA becomes dorsalis pedis - runs medial to EHL tendon, down to the space between first and second metatarsals
- PTA divides into larger lateral plantar artery and smaller medial plantar branch
- Lateral plantar artery provides main contribution to anastomotic loop
