Appearance
Indications
[edit | edit source]- Deficiency of clotting factors with bleeding or risk of bleeding, where specific therapy (e.g. clotting factor concentrates) is not appropriate or available
- Useful when the specific clotting deficiency can't be treated with the exact product
- Prevention of dilutional coagulopathy in the setting of MTP
- DIC
- Plasma exchange (TTP)
- Reversal of warfarin anticoagulation
Component
[edit | edit source]- FFP - whole blood or apheresis unit - 275mL
- Paed unit - 70mL
Administration
[edit | edit source]- Adults, paeds and neonates: 10-15mL/kg, rounded to nearest unit (in most cases give 15mL/kg)
- Give over 30-120 mins based on volume tolerance
Outcomes
[edit | edit source]- INR changes may not correlate with clinical effect
- The effect can be transient
