HbA1c
[edit | edit source]- Long-term assessment of the level of glycated haemoglobin, which represents 2-3 months worth of average, but is more weighted towards the past month
- When plasma glucose is consistently elevated, there is an increase in the non-enzymatic glycaemic history over the previous 2-3 months, because erythrocytes have an average lifespan of 120 days
- Rough correlates:
- Hba1c 6% = average BSL 7
- 7% = 8.6
- 8% = 10.2
- 9% = 11.1
- 10% = 13.4
- 11% = 14.9
- 12% = 16.5
