Dermoid cyst

Developmental (inclusion) dermoid cyst

  • External angular dermoid lies at the junction of outer and upper margins of the orbit
  • For plastics to excise


Traumatic (implantation) dermoid cyst

  • Caused by repetitive trauma e.g. tailors, hairdressers
  • Often seen on fingers
  • Lined by squamous epithelium, containing sebum - the epithelial cells are implanted by repeated trauma
  • Deroof the cyst and enucleate its contents with curette
  • Can be left alone if asymptomatic
