Indications:
[edit | edit source]- BMI 30-35, adjunct to conservative weight loss measures
- BMI >35 with one comorbidity, or >40, who lack access to proper bariatric surgery
- BMI >50 as a bridge to bariatric surgery
Weight loss through gastric restriction - early satiety
[edit | edit source]Significant weight loss at 6 months, weight maintenance at one year
- 11% - 15% TBWL maintained at one year
- However many patients ultimately regain weight after removal
Aes:
[edit | edit source]- Frequent nausea, vomiting, abdo pain
- Should be on atiemetics/PPIs
Removal
[edit | edit source]- Diagnostic gastroscopy
- Puncture balloon and empty it - there is a proprietary device that facilitates removal without any of the saline going into stomach, through the scope
- Suction all fluid
- Grasp with something like a rat tooth forceps
