Dermoid cyst
Appearance
Developmental (inclusion) dermoid cyst
- External angular dermoid lies at the junction of outer and upper margins of the orbit
- For plastics to excise
Traumatic (implantation) dermoid cyst
- Caused by repetitive trauma e.g. tailors, hairdressers
- Often seen on fingers
- Lined by squamous epithelium, containing sebum - the epithelial cells are implanted by repeated trauma
- Deroof the cyst and enucleate its contents with curette
- Can be left alone if asymptomatic
