Pathophysiology
[edit | edit source]- Confined to basement membrane
- Classify into low-grade or high-grade (or indefinite)
- 3.5% of low-grade and 59% of high-grade progress to adenocarcinoma within a year
- Only 4.3% of low-grade ever progressed to adenocarcinoma in one series
Management
[edit | edit source]- Low-grade: close endoscopic monitoring, and intervention if lesions progress
- Alternative - endoscopic resection
- High-grade: surgical or endoscopic resection
