* Low-fibre diet for three days prior
* Change to clear fluids at 1pm the day before

=== Osmotically balanced ===

* PEG (polyethylene glycol) 
** Safer than osmotic laxatives for patients with renal/liver insufficiency/CHF or electrolyte imbalances

=== Hyperosmotic preparations ===

* Higher risk of electrolyte imbalances
* PicoLAX (NaP + magnesium citrate)
* Fleet (aqueous NaP)

=== Others ===

* Bisacodyl - stimulates peristalsis
** Use as adjunct for NaP or PEG preparations (decreases volume required)

== Boston bowel prep score out of 9 ==

* 0-3 for left colon
* 0-3 for transverse
* 0-3 for right

0: unprepared colon, mucosa not seen because of solid stool that is unclearable

1: Some mucosa seen, other areas not seen (staining, residual stool, opaque liquid)

2: Minor residual staining, small fragments of stool/opaque liquid, most mucosa well seen

3: entire mucosa well seen with no residual staining, small fragments of stool, or opaque liquid
