Short-term:

[edit | edit source]
    • CVC (central venous catheter)
      • Typically 24-72 hours
    • PAC (pulmonary artery catheter) or Swan-Ganz catheter
      • Sits in pulmonary artery, usually for 24 hours, for advanced haemodynamic monitoring

    • PICC (peripherally inserted central catheter)

Long-term

[edit | edit source]
    • Tunnelled CVAD
      • Permacath
      • Hickman
        • I think a Hickman's catheter is same as permacath except it doesn't have a cuff under skin to keep it stable
      • Used when >30 days access required
    • Implanted venous port - can remain for months to years
      • Portacath
