Prolapse - urethrocoele

- Largely due to childbirth

Stricture
[edit | edit source]- Uncommon in women
- Urethritis
- Difficult labour
- Respond well to urethral dilation in women
Fowler's syndrome
[edit | edit source]- Idiopathic condition with abnormal myotonic discharge in the striated urethral sphincter
- Causes retention
- Probably have to do ISC
Diverticulum
[edit | edit source]- Rare
- Local pain and repeated cystitis due to infection
- Purulent urine discharged if the urethra is compressed with a finger in the vagina
- MRI or TV USS
- Can be excised carefully
Caruncle
[edit | edit source]- Common in elderly women
- Soft, raspberry-like, pedunculated granulomatous mass, about the size of a pea, attached to the posterior urethral wall near the external meatus
- There may be frequency of micturition and urethral pain afterwards
- Can be excised and diathermy the base of the stalk
Carcinoma of the urethra

- Malignant swellings of the urethra feel harder than benign ones
