Appearance
- Central venous access device - those with tip in central circulation (SVC/IVC/right atrium)
- Peripheral venous access device - those with tip in all other places
Central:

- PAC (pulmonary artery catheter) or Swan-Ganz catheter
- Sits in pulmonary artery, usually for 24 hours, for advanced haemodynamic monitoring

- I think a Hickman's catheter is same as permacath except it doesn't have a cuff under skin to keep it stable
