Breast abscess drainage
Technique

- Usually incise at the area of diseased skin, but can peri-areolar if near the nipple
- Send pus for culture
- Deloculate
- Obtain histology for non-lactational abscesses
- Insert a drain for a large cavity, or loosely pack
Post-op
[edit | edit source]- Allow breastfeeding as soon as comfortable
- Supportive bra
- Doesn't usually need much packing
